The word Oklahoma originally came from a Choctaw word: Oklah homma, which means “red nation”. Today

there are more than 39 Native American tribes that call this state home, five of which are indigenous to the state. 

As a result of the many tribes that live here, Oklahoma has been known as an “Indian Territory” state.
